Jonathan Larry Spors

Jonathan Larry Spors, 66, of Covington, IN passed away on November 13, 2018 at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. He was fortunate to have many years of health after being diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 6, followed by a short illness and quick peaceful transition at the end. He was born on February 10, 1952 in Sparta, WI the son of Edwin "Pete" Ahart and Ione Malinda (Pfaff) Spors. Jon will be deeply missed by his loving girlfriend, Cheryl Rogers, children; Thomas (Jennifer) Spors of Indianapolis, Jenny (Chris) Hill of Plainfield, David Spors of Covington, and Michael Spors of Indianapolis, brothers; Arlan (Kay) Spors of Melrose, WI and Tony (Deborah) Spors of Anoka, MN, grandchildren; Evan and Katy Spors, August and Gabe Hill, Hannah and Haileigh Phelps, Aidyn, Peyton, and Emma Spors, daughters-in-law Rebecca Spors of Tecumseh, NE and Megan Phelps of Crawfordsville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved son Paul Spors and a daughter-in-law Katy Spors. Members of the community may recognize him from his 20 years of working at DACC as Director of Instructional Media Services, and previous careers at University of Evansville and Gunderson Lutheran Hospital. He enjoyed the people he worked with and remembered them fondly. Jon was a rock of support for his five children, their partners and their children, never giving up on any of them regardless of circumstances and always there to help them do the right thing. He had a lifelong passion for photography and took thousands of pictures and videos of his family long before there were phones or digital cameras. He was persuaded to hang up his decades of motorcycle riding in 2011 after one too many spills. In his later years he enjoyed gardening, watching the news, visiting his buddies at the Bar Noble, and talking to his kids on the phone nearly every day. He delighted in his grandchildren and was kind to each person he met in life, believing firmly that dignity and compassion belong to everyone. A Celebration of Jon's life will be held at 10:00 AM EST on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Sunset's Covington Chapel with Pastor Jim Blue officiating, followed by a luncheon. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM EST on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington.
