Johnnie Wesley Leigh Jr. passed away at his home in Danville, Illinois on March 3, 2022. Johnnie was born September 23, 1954 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville to Virginia Rose (Gordon) Leigh and Johnnie Wesley Leigh.
Johnnie was a kind, gentle man who loved his family. Johnnie had a great relationship with both of his parents as well as his stepmother, Louada Leigh, whom he loved just like she was his own mother. Johnnie has a passion for reading and had quite the collection of books on all different subjects. Johnnie loved to garden and had 'two green thumbs'. He had amazing talent when it came to gardening. Johnnie also had talent in art and had painted some beautiful things in his lifetime. The home he had at time of death had a room where he was free hand painting fish on the walls to make it look like ocean scenes. Johnnie was excited about fixing up the house he bought and was skilled to be able to do so. Johnnie was a 'jack of all trades' and dabbled in a little of everything allowing him to be able to have different types of jobs over his lifetime. In his free time, he loved to fish and it was a hobby he shared with his father.
Johnnie is survived by children, Johnnie (Nicki) Leigh Ill, Jennifer Bailey (Leigh), and Jason (Jeannette) Benbow; grandchildren, Jenna, Trenton, Johnnie IV, Courtney, Adrienne, Tayler, Jacob, Joseph, Jayda, Camille, Tyrus, and Calvin; 10 great grandchildren; step mother, Louada Leigh; brothers, Bobby (Maxine) Cotton and Wesley Leigh (Tim French); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. This includes his best friend for life, Loren Stricklin.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Leigh; and mother, Virginia Leigh; brothers, Dale Leigh, Marty Leigh, and Billy (Wendy) Leigh; and sisters, Sherry Place and Sheila Arnett.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements.
