John Patrick “Jack” McMahon, 86, of Rantoul passed away peacefully at home at 3:15 PM Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on November 27th, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to parents George and Lillian (Millea) McMahon.  In his early high school years, he met the love of his life, Patrica Jean (Pat) Scharff.  They were married on June 21st, 1958, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on January 28th, 2016.

Jack is survived by three children, Greg (Linda) McMahon, Valerie Lewis, and Doug (Lee) McMahon; son-in-law Brian Kaiser; nine grandchildren, Lacey, Drew, Kyle, Lisa, Nick, Elly, Jordan, Sam and Madison; twelve great-grandchildren, Landen, Avery, Breann, Sofia, Natalee, Isabella, Jaxson, Marissa, James, Vera, Olivia, and Aurora.  Also surviving are his siblings GeorgeAnn Lane, Tom (Mary Jo) McMahon, Dan (Rosemary) McMahon, Bob McMahon, Jean (Curtis) Holderbach, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jack in death were his parents; daughter, Connie Lynn Kaiser; sisters, Mary Jane Sheehan and Francis Neary; sister-in-law Ruth McMahon; brother-in-law Jack Lane; and niece Becky McMahon.

Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul.  He served 4 years and 28 days.  Following his military service, he and Pat settled their roots in Rantoul.  They opened Jacque’s Beauty Salon, where they worked together for 45 years.  During that time, he was also a car salesman at Roger’s Chevrolet in Rantoul. He built long-lasting relationships and earned many awards for his excellence in auto sales.  Jack was then able to join his son in the business when Doug opened McMahon Auto Sales in 2009.  His last day at the dealership was Good Friday, March 29th, 2024.  His dear companion, Janet Hewerdine, traveled and spent quality time with him for the past 7 years.

Jack’s priorities in life were his family, friends and his devotion to the Catholic church.  He always enjoyed attending college and NFL football games across the country, watching his son Greg coach for many years.  During Greg’s tenure at the University of Illinois, Jack would pack all his family, “The McMahon Tribe” in the Illini Van for home and away tailgates.  He and Pat made plenty of trips to Las Vegas, where they won many jackpots. Many special memories were made with his daughters, Connie and Val, when they joined in on the shenanigans. He built so many relationships and connections due to his affectionate personality.  Jack’s legacy will carry on forever and the memories of his generosity will never cease.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Malachy School or Carle Hospice.
