John Charles Wagner, 73, of Covington, IN passed away at 9:05 am on July 13, 2025 at St Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette, IN.
John was born on May 10, 1952 the son of Danald and Anna Irene (Metcalf) Wagner in Danville, IL at St Elizabeth Hospital. John married Patricia Ann Long on May 31, 2008 in Covington, IN and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Wagner of Covington, IN, two stepsons, Ryan Durnell of Danville, IL and Bobby (Gracie) Durnell, Cayuga, IN, three step grandchildren, Ayla Durnell, Avery Durnell and Elena Durnell, five siblings, Jim (Karen) Wagner of Florida, Joe Wagner of Danville, IL, Martha (Mike) Yusko of O’Fallon, IL, Margie (John) Alexander of Terre Haute, IN and Tom (Rhonda) Wagner of Danville, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his only son, John Charles “Charlie” Wagner II, his parents, Donald and Anna Wagner, brother, Donald F. Wagner, sister, Mary Ellen Buesking and his nephew, Adam Donald Wagner.
John was an altar server at St Paul’s Catholic Church for many years, graduated from Schlarman High School and later from SIU in Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in Radio Communications. He was a radio personality and worked in radio advertising. John enjoyed spending his free time riding his motorcycle, playing golf and pool as well as gambling, which he became quite good at. John and Patty were together for over 25 years and did everything together, they were rarely apart. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and loved his dogs dearly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut St., Danville, Illinois 61832. Father Cyr will officiate. A Rosary Service will be held at 4:30 pm on Friday, August 22, 2025 with visitation to follow from 5:00-7:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834.
