John W. Wood

John W. Wood, 79, of Sidell passed away on December 19, 2022 at OSF Hospital in Danville. He was born in Vandalia on June 4, 1943 to parents Woodrow and Frances Wood, who later divorced in 1947. He was raised by his stepmom Beverly Wood, whom he affectionately called "mom". John was born into a family of eight children: Gloria, Gaylen, Stanley, Steve, Sally, Danny, and Dennis, and has several nieces and nephews as a result.

John attended Danville Grade School and Danville High School growing up. He furthered his education at Black Hawk College and Augustana College receiving his degree in teaching science.

He married Evelyn "Carrol" Wood in the Lincoln Methodist Church on July 12, 1964. They celebrated their 58th year of marriage this past July. Together, they raised three children: John Wilson Wood, George Fitzgerald Wood, and Carole Jane Wood West. They also shared five grandchildren: Erika Bowman, Tyler Wood, Kaila Claypool Wood, Johnathon Eckert, and Austin Menges, as well as four great grandchildren.

John was close to his mother-in-law, Evelyn Clink, and his father-in-law, George Clink. So much in fact, he referred to them as his mother and dad. John loved teaching, sharing life experiences, fishing, dogs, and flea markets. He never seemed to meet a stranger or to help someone in distress. He will truly be missed.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Pastor Matt Filicsky will be officiating.
