John W. Nimrick, Sr.

John W. Nimrick, Sr. passed away on July 23, 2024 at the home he built himself many years prior in rural Georgetown. He was 82. He was born on November 16, 1941 in Georgetown to the late Francis and Juanita (Maskel) Nimrick.

He attended Georgetown High School and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. Soon after graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army in which he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged. He married the love of his life, Bobbee Lynn Barnes on Sept. 20, 1959. She survives. Also surviving are their sons John (Jan) Nimrick, Jr., of Ridge Farm, IL and Rob (Tracey) Nimrick of Largo, FL; his grandsons Curtis (Samantha) Nimrick of Fransico, IN and Jeremy (Angelina) Nimrick of Seminole, FL; and step-grandsons David (Jin) Galyen and James (Ashley) Galyen. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Gwyneth, Felix, Averiannah, & Havok Nimrick, Bianca and Trinitee Young-Nimrick, Taylor & Tristin Galyen, and Margaret & Christopher Hayes; his siblings Bettie (Leon- preceded) Haussy, Nyrita (David-prec.) Sellers, Sherry (Leo) Serd, and Francis Leroy (Nancy-prec.) Nimrick; and his lifelong friend Don Vettorel.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Teresa Nimrick and good friends Jerry Cook, Dennis Hughes, and Larry Mollet.

John dedicated many years to the Post Office in town before he eventually retired. He was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed hunting and archery. He was well known for his incredible carpentry skills.

A visitation will be held for John on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 10am -12 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes Houghton-Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown, IL. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow at 12 pm. Pastor Jim Blue will be officiating. He will be placed to rest at Danville National Cemetery with military rites following services.
