John Vestal

John L. Vestal, 83, passed away on October 12, 2025 at his home in Georgetown surrounded by his family. He was born on June 19, 1942 in St. Bernice, Indiana to the late Robert and Margaret {Honeycut} Vestal. Growing up, John attended Centennial High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

John left a significant mark in various roles over the years, starting with Albin Vending Inc., and followed by a management position at IGA. Most notably, he dedicated 32 years of his life as a truck driver for Sunbeam, where his reliability and work ethic earned him the respect of peers and supervisors alike. John was not only a hardworking man but also someone who cherished life's simple pleasures. He found solace in fishing, relished the challenge of working on vehicles, and took great joy in planting flowers. However, nothing compared to his love for family; he prioritized time spent with loved ones above all else.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Vernie Vestal, and her 5 children; his children Melissa Rollins, RaeAnne (James) Smith, and Jennifer Vestal; and his sister Nancy (Rick) Sheets. He survived by 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Patrick Vestal and brother Robert Vestal.

A visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home’s Houghton- Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. East Street in Georgetown, Illinois. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at 1 pm at the funeral home that afternoon. Per John’s wishes, cremation will take place. He will be placed to rest at Forest Park Cemetery with military honors following.
