John T. Welsch

John Theodore Welsch, 83, of Danville, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. John was born on August 22, 1924 in Danville, the son of John and Ethel (Purnell) Welsch. He married Rosalie Swisher on August 2, 1958 in Long Beach, California. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2002. He is survived by his two sons- Ty (Cathy) Welsch and Tod Welsch both of Danville; two daughters- Tia (James) Black and Tara (Steve Houghton) Welsch both of Danville; two brothers- Joe (Polly) Welsch of Florida and George (Peggy) Welsch of California; ten grandchildren- Dawn, Haley, Kristina, Samantha, Madalene, Hilary, Hanna, Jordan, Katie and Alisha; five great-grandchildren- Kaylee, Aussie, Mason, Camden and Jaren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother- Bill Welsch and one sister- Virginia Galeener. John attended Danville High School and enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17. He was enlisted in the Navy for 21 years as a chief machinist mate. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. John was discharged in 1964, but served in the Navy Reserve until 1972. After serving in the Navy he worked at the VA for 20 years in the engineering department, until he retired in 1989. John was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church and was a past-member of the Navy Club. He enjoyed his dogs, gardening, reading and watching westerns and war movies. John also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life of John Theodore Welsch will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 " 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Danville National Cemetery following the service with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
