John T. Allen

John T. Allen, 87, of Danville, passed away at 12:38 p.m. Friday, (September 2, 2005) at Provena U.S.M.C. " Logan Campus in Danville. He was born October 9, 1917 near Camden, Arkansas, the son of Oscar E. and Ruth McGaughy Allen. He married Clara Swartz on June 16, 1943 in West Palm Beach, Florida. She survives. He is survived by a son, Don Allen of Anderson, IN, granddaughters, Angela (Tony) Gray, Amie (Darren) Gardner and Kristy (Chad Webber) Allen. Also surviving are a great-grandson, Coleton Gray, five great-granddaughters, Kennedy Gray, Jordan and Kaylen Cage, Addison and Ava Gardner " all of Anderson, IN. Two sisters, Alice (Ralph) Stubbs of Port Neches, TX and Jennie (Bob) Ashworth of Camden, Arkansas, three brothers, James Allen of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Hugh Allen of Nederland, Texas, Oscar Allen of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and one sister-in-law, Reve Allen of Texarkana, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Roy Allen, and three sisters-in-law. In 1936 he graduated from Fairview High School, Camden, Arkansas. He worked for the International Paper Company in Georgetown, South Carolina for three years before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1940. He was in the service from 1940 to 1945 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 to serve one year during the Korean War. He retired from Howard Martin Automotive Business. He worked for several years at the Danville Civic Center at special events. John was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports especially baseball. A great interest of his was World War II Aircraft. He belonged to Warbirds of America, Warbirds World Wide, Experimental Aircraft Association, American Legion Post #210 and American Association of Retired Persons. He dearly loved and enjoyed his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
