John Stanley (Mauruszaitis) Morris, 85, of Covington, went to be with his Savior at 9:49am, Sunday, August 23, 2020, at home with his family by his side. He was born on February 1, 1935 the son of Walter S. Mauruszaitis Morris and Lela {Cornwell} Morris in Danville, IL. John grew up in Georgetown, IL. He was a graduate of Georgetown High in 1955. During those years, he excelled in Track & Field and football earning a scholarship to Murray State Kentucky University. In 1957, John married Shirley Phillips and they had three daughters and they later divorced. He married Mary Lou Turner of Perrysville, IN, on March 15, 1968. He moved to the country in Covington, IN where he enjoyed raising livestock, planting a huge garden, and landscaping. He also enjoyed fishing and teaching his girls how to fish and garden. He enjoyed listening to country music and dancing. He was a loving father and husband. John became a Mason on March 13, 1965 receiving his fifty-year award on March 13, 2015. He belonged to the Russell Masonic Lodge #154 of Georgetown. He retired from Tee-Pak with thirty years of service. He was also a member of the New Liberty Christian Church in Veedersburg, IN. John loved his pets, especially his current dachshund, Miss Tiffy. He will be dearly missed by: his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou; his daughters whom he loved, Sheri L. Phaneuf of St. Charles, MO, Lori (Hubert) Kimberlin of Coeburn, VA, and Stacie (Lisa Nalepa) Leland, NC; his step-daughter, Beth Harris; his brother, Alfred (Belva) Morris of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Jay Phaneuf of St. Charles, MO, Shawna (Patrick Gillis) Ermold of St. Louis, MO, Melissa (Logan) Childress of Bristol, TN, Michael (Amanda) Durham of Oklahoma City, OK, Mari Durham of Coeburn, VA, Shane Terry of Leland, NC, Johnny Paul (Lindsey) Terry of Wilmington, NC; his twelve great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson who is due anytime; several nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law, Annabeth Stark, Arlene Snyder, Norma Turner, Sonna (Ronnie) Crowder, Naomi (Roy) Hershberger; his brother-in-law, Max C. Turner; and his special friends, James (Peggy) Bentley of Veedersburg, IN. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Norma Moriarity, Dixie Ingram, Betty (Oral) Gildersleeve, and Beverly Blackburn; his brother, Billy K. Morris; his brothers-in-law, Russell Stark, Clarence Turner, and Lewis Turner; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Turner, Reva Turner, & Joyce Turner. A celebration of Johns life will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846 with Pastor Richard Throckmorton officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00am - 1:00pm on Wednesday prior to his service at the funeral home with a Masonic Service to be held at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. It is kindly requested that face masks be worn, and social distancing is practiced by those in attendance of the visitation and/or service. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Alzheimers Association or Humane Society or Donors choice of Charity.
