John Slezak, 83, died at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday at Heartland Healthcare in Champaign. John was born on September 30, 1929 in Reading, PA, to Michael and Wanda Slezak. He married Delores Janas on March 21, 1987. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Michael Slezak, of Champaign, Scott (Carla) Slezak, of Albuquerque, NM, Richard Slezak, of Dixon, and David (Ginny) Slezak, of Charlotte, NC; three step-daughters, Christie (Daryl) Hallman, of Urbana, Mary (Dustin) Ashby, of St. Louis, MO, and Lisa Janas, of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren, Paul, Timothy, Christopher, and Matthew Slezak, Jodie Hallman, Carter and Colin Ashby; one sister, Ann (Joe) Cannon, of King, NC.; one brother, Michael (Sue) Slezak, of Perkiomenville, PA; and former wife Louise Slezak. He is preceded in death by his parents. John graduated from Penn State University in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. After graduating John worked in the petroleum industry before partnering to open the first Royal Donut in Danville. He then worked for 24 years as an Industrial Engineer for General Motors in Danville. John loved his job and was very proud of it. He enjoyed the latest and greatest in technology, traveling, reading, and gardening. John was a former member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. He will fondly be remembered for being ornery and strong-willed, but very loving. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center Champaign Urbana Chapel, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign. Funeral ceremony will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 102 N. State St., Champaign, with Deacon Christine Hopkins officiating.
