John 'Sam' Ray

John Sam Ray, 74, of Covington, passed away at 1:05pm, Sunday, September 5, 2021, at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on January 15, 1947, in Danville, IL, the son of John C. and Lula G. {Smith} Ray. He was united in marriage to Gail Lake on August 30, 1969. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by his son, Mike (Cindy) Ray of Covington; his grandchildren, Marco, Nicoli, his sister, Sue Hinkle of Danville; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, George Hinkle; and nephew, Scott Pearson. Sam worked for Interstate Printing for 30 years. He also helped farm, did lawncare, and was known for helping Lutheran Cemetery for many years. He also enjoyed country music and attending gospel concerts. Sam loved visiting the casino and was one who enjoyed breakfast at McDonalds. He will be affectionately remembered by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Sams life will be held at 1:00pm (EST), Monday, September 13, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932 with Dale Deneal officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Gundy Cemetery, Bismarck, IL. Memorial donations may be given in his name to donors choice of charity.
