John R. Rogers, Sr., age 72, of Danville, IL, passed away at 8:15 am on July 2, 2009 at the Danville V.A. Hospital. He was born in Clay County, Indiana on March 14, 1937 the son of Raymond and Mary (Williams) Rogers. They preceded him in death as well as six brothers, three sisters, and two brothers-in-law. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Basic Training Regiment, 4th Platoon at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (April 3, 1956-August 6, 1956), and the 599th Armored Field Artillery Battery, HQ. Company, 3rd Armored Cav. at Bremerhaven, Germany (October 18, 1956-February 19, 1958) as a light vehicle and truck driver. He was released from active duty to the Army Reserves based in Terre Haute, IN and McCoy, Wisconsin on March 5, 1958, where he was a vehicle and engineer equipment mechanic. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1962. John was a carpenter for the Penn Central and Conrail Railroads, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Brazil American Legion Post #2. John is survived by two sons: John (Gwen) Rogers of Lizton, IN, David Rogers of Terre Haute, IN; one daughter: Cathie Rogers who resides in Florida. Other survivors include two sisters: Goldie Malone of Danville, Maxine McKee of Bloomington, California; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Tom and Margie Rogers, Harold and Wanda Rogers, Ann Rogers all of Brazil, IN; He has four grandchildren: Dale, Desiree, Jerod, Bruce; five great grandchildren: Mary, Kaden, Sydney, Arabella, Tristan; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation at the wishes of the deceased. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm CST on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Danville National Cemetery located at 1900 East Main Street in Danville, IL.
