Eugene, Ind. - John Robert Dunavan, 60, of Eugene, passed away at 5 a.m. EDT Monday, May 30, 2022 at his residence.

He was born March 1, 1962 in Clinton, Indiana the son of William and Rosalie (Boyer) Dunavan.

John first married Teresa Mayes. He later married Laurie Cheesman and to this union were three children: Christina (Clifford) Mikel of Perrysville, Indiana; Melvin Jacob 'Mike' (Cori) Dunavan of Cayuga, Indiana and Jon Alan (Roxi) Dunavan of Eugene, Indiana; other survivors include his companion: Laurie Cheesman Dunavan of Eugene, Indiana; father: William Dean (Debbie) Dunavan, Sr. of Eugene, Indiana; ten grandchildren: Jeremiah, Selena, Brayson, Dawsen, Kohen, Jason William, Fannie,. Hope, Kaisley and Mazilyn; siblings: William (Roxanne) Dunavan, Jr. of Eugene, Indiana; Ronald Lee (Angie) Dunavan and Tiffanie (Ben) Drake both of Cayuga, Indiana, and Autumn (Jeff) Jackson of Eugene, Indiana; mother-in-law: Gloria Cheesman of Covington, Indiana, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his mother: Rosalie (Boyer) Dunavan; maternal grandparents: Melvin 'Mike' (Mary) Boyer; paternal grandparents: Austin (Opal) Dunavan; infant sister: Linda Lou Dunavan; nephew: Jason Dean Dunavan and father-in-law: Arnold Cheesman.

John grew up farming. He would run the tractor, plow and disk, work up the ground, plant, help his Grandpa Austin spray and at harvest time run the combine.

One time when he was young, John got mad at his Grandma Opal and hid from her. All the neighbors went out looking for him. Finally, one of the neighbors found John curled up in a tractor tire asleep.

John later worked at Robin Tech in Danville, Illinois; Walker Farms in Cayuga, Indiana; Illiana Drilling, Dunavan Logging where he helped buckup logs and transported them. He lost part of his left leg while working for Dunavan Logging when the logs rolled off the trailer and pinned him down. He also formerly worked at the Vermillion County Highway Department. He was a 1980 graduate of North Vermillion High School and a member of the Cayuga American Legion S.A.L.

Graveside services and burial: 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana; Officiating: Curt Flora. There will be no visitation. DeVerter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
