John Richard 'Dick' Henley

John Richard Dick Henley, 90, of Elgin, Il, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 2:54am on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Seasons Hospice Rosewood Care Center in Elgin, IL. He was born on February 19, 1920, the son of Burl and Geneva (Bodine) Henley. On November 20, 1940, John married Dorothy Lackey in Kansas City, MO. They were married for 68 years until her death on February 7, 2008. Surviving family members are his two daughters, Jolene (Louis) Molnar of Aurora, IL, and Janice Rasmussen of West Dundee, IL. His three grandchildren, Jacie Brandes of Wilmette, IL, Jud (Kelly) Rasmussen of Mukwonago, WI, Julia (Dan) ODonnell of Madison, WI, his two step-grandchildren, Stephanie Molnar of Dexter, KY, Bradley Molnar of Batavia, IL, six great-grandchildren, Joseph and Melanie Molnar, Lillian and Grady ODonnell, Lucas, and Joseph Rasmussen, Grace Brandes, and one brother, James Henley of Shawnee, KS, also survives him. In addition to his wife Dorothy, his parents and one brother preceded John in death. John enlisted into the United States Army from Aug of 1943 until Dec of 1945 as a light machine gunner. After the service, he worked in management with the recording and statistical corp, in printing, until his retirement after 37 years of service. He was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Danville and a 30 year member of the Danville Bridge Club. A Celebration of the Life of John Henley will begin at 11:00am on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the St. James United Methodist Church in Danville with burial to follow at the Danville National Cemetery. Pastor Tiffany Black has been asked to officiate the service. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of service, at the church.
