John Phillips

John M. Phillips, 77, of Danville passed away on April 7, 2007 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. John was born July 4, 1929 in Danville son of Clarence R. and Ella J. Sexton Phillips. He married Mary E. Thayer May 21, 1960 at the Methodist Church in Urbana. She survives. Survivors include child: Cynthia Phillips and her family, step son Herman (Diana) Wyatt, grandchildren: Jim (Birgit) Wyatt, Karla (Mike) Neff, Stephanie Wyatt, and Tiphanie Hyland, great grandchildren: Frances Wyatt, Brock Hyland, and Christopher Moore Jr., sister: Imogene Day, and several nieces nephews & great nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, four brother-in-laws & one sister-in-laws. John was a 1947 graduate of Danville High School, served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to January 1953 and worked for Illinois Power for 42 years as a Engineering clerk retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1306, Danville Elks Club member for over 35 years before transferring to the Pompano Beach Elks in Florida, past member of the American Legion, Friendly Mixers Square Dancing Club, and Lincoln Lanes mixed bowling league. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and traveling; he especially loved to go to Las Vegas and play Santa Claus for children and adults. A Celebration of Johns Life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 308 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with Father Jeffery Scanlon officiating. Visitation will be from 11 -1 p.m. at the church. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent for Christopher M. Moore, care of Herman Wyatt at New Horizon Credit Union in Honor of John Phillips.
