John Stephen Patterson, of Georgetown, Illinois, passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on May 27, 1951, John lived a life marked by service, dedication to family, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved life partner, Pearl Griffith; his children, Scott (Kim) Patterson and Melissa (Jermaine). He was a proud grandfather to Adriyanna, La Vont'e, Aiden, Allison, and Avery. John is also survived by his stepchildren: Darren and Brenda, their children Jerrid, Adam, and Lana; Teresa; Todd and Carlen, their children Noah, Hailey, and Hannah; Tracy and daughter Traci Ann. He is further survived by his sisters, Pam Patterson-Dalenburg and Penny Patterson.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Patterson and Kenneth Patterson Jr.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army. His dedication to military service continued long after his active-duty years through his involvement with the Military Honor Guard, where he faithfully served. He took great pride in honoring fellow veterans and ensuring they received the respect and recognition they deserved.

Known for his warm personality and quick wit, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed bowling, playing the guitar, riding his motorcycle, spending time at the American Legion, and tinkering in the garage. Perhaps most memorable was his love of telling dad jokes and laughing at them himself, often leaving family and friends smiling right along with him.

Above all else, John cherished time spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, generous heart, and dedication to those he loved. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and friendship to many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

John's legacy of service, kindness, and laughter will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown, Illinois 61846. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Georgetown. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery with military honors.
