John McCrone, 86, of Georgetown, passed away at 10:40am, Sunday, October 25, 2009, at VA Illiana Health Care Systems in Danville. He was born on May 2, 1923, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of John and Mary (Siner) McCrone, both deceased. He was married to M. Vivian Potter on June 27, 1942, in McCallan, TX, until her passing on February 12, 2006. Survivors include: his sons, Bill (Jean) McCrone of Westville, Jim (Vicki) McCrone of Georgetown, and John McCrone of Texas; his daughter, Barbara White of Winona, MI; his eleven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. John was a proud Veteran of the US Army. He served during World War II with the 3rd Armor under General Patton. He was one of the first wave at Normandy Beach. He was a member of the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203 of Georgetown, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Royal Order of the Purple Heart. John enjoyed racing and model trains. A celebration of Johns life will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Chaplain Paul Witt will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery.
