John H Maudlin

John H. Maudlin, lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away on November 4, 2025 at the Villas of Holly Brook Senior Living Facility in Danville. He was 91. John was born at home in Georgetown on October 5, 1934, the second of six children to the late Amy “Ruth” and Charles Maudlin. He attended the Elwood School and later graduated from Georgetown High School with the Class of 1952.

Throughout his life, John farmed with a passion and purpose that not only cultivated the land but nurtured countless generations of family memories. His children cherish the precious moments spent riding in the tractor or the combine alongside him, where they learned not just about farming, but about commitment, perseverance, and the value of hard work. He was known for his strong, resilient spirit and his remarkable work ethic. He approached life with a sense of determination and had an excellent memory, which allowed him to recount stories from his youth and life on the farm. These stories carried lessons that enriched the lives of those around him.

John was a longtime member of the Elwood Friends Meeting. His faith played a central role in his life, guiding him in his relationships and community involvement. Over the years, he was deeply involved in 4-H, FFA, Georgetown Fair Association and the Vermilion County Farm Bureau as an active participant, a leader and a supporter of many. Additionally, his many years as a board member for the First National Bank of Georgetown reflected his deep commitment to financial stewardship. John was also a devoted board member of the Vermilion County Soil & Water Conservation District demonstrating his dedication to preserving the natural resources around him for future generations.

John is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Rosalynn Maudlin; his daughters Sandra (Andrew) Perry and Linda (Daniel) Kadrich; stepsons Bryan (Mary Ann) Mickelson and Alan (Peg) Mickelson; and his grandchildren Ellie Kadrich, Jameson Perry, Nathan (Mary) Mickelson, Greg (Diana) Mickelson, Reilly Mickelson, and Hannah Mickelson. He is also survived by his siblings Paul Maudlin, Sara Donahue, Joan Stanley, Pauline Maudlin, and Marie Brown, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant sons Henry and Stephen Maudlin.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4- 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home’s Houghton- Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown. A funeral service will take place the following morning at 10 am on Saturday, November 15, 2025, also at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Georgetown Cemetery following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name can be made to the Elwood Friends Meeting.
