John Marsters, 94, of Edinburg, IL, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at his home on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Edinburg, IL.
John was born on September 19, 1930, the son of Carroll and Stella (Cline) Marsters in Danville, IL. He married Judith Ann Hembrey on February 14, 1959, and she preceded him in death on March 16, 2007. John is also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Julie Ann Marsters and his two brothers, Thomas (Tom) and William (Bill) Marsters, and their wives Suzanne and Ida Mae, respectively.
Survivors include his daughter, Carole of Edinburg, IL, his son, Nick of Edinburg, IL, one grandchild, Schuyler Quentin Marsters of Pawnee, IL, and one great-granddaughter, Everleigh Grace Marsters. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
John attended West Point United States Military Academy from 1949 -1952. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 -1957 where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and learned to pilot jets. During the interim between his Military endeavors, he attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in General Engineering. John retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 32 years of service.
John was a follower of Christ and an avid student of the Bible. He jointly pursued authentic faith with his late wife Judie during her living years, and afterward independently as reflected by their active generosity, support of Christian ministries, and genuine commitment to helping those in need.
Prior to her passing, John loved spending time with his wife Judie. Additionally, John was a talented carpenter who loved exercising, creative cooking, and eating all kinds of foods. He will be remembered by his lively sense of humor and an infectious laugh shared by both his brothers Tom and Bill.
As per John’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s memory to the Edinburg United Methodist Church in Edinburg, IL.
