John L. Kilgore, Sr.

Cayuga, Ind. - John L. Kilgore, Sr., 75, of Cayuga, passed away at 11:45 p.m. CST Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

He was born June 8, 1942 in Cayuga, Indiana the son of the late Carl and Amelia B. (Snyder) Kilgore.

John married Mary Jane Sykes on July 11,1965 in Dana, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include his four children: John L. Kilgore, Jr. of Cayuga, Indiana; Shaun Kilgore of Danville, Illinois; Melanie (Michael) Messer of Indianapolis, Indiana and William (Kalie) Kilgore of Danville, Illinois; one sister: Glenda (Layton) West of Cayuga, Indiana: one brother, Arden Kilgore of Cayuga, Indiana; two special friends: Phil Harrier of Covington, Indiana and Gale Fortner of Cayuga, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his infant sister, and brother, Bill Kilgore.

John was a quality control technician at U.S. CAN in Danville, Illinois, retiring in 2001. He attended the Cayuga Christian Church and was a 1960 graduate of Cayuga High School. He enjoyed researching genealogy, listening to country music, Indianapolis Colts Football, Indiana University Basketball and Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, even more with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Monday, March 5, 2018 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Ashton Stewart; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: Noon EST until time of services on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the funeral home.
