John Kinney

John Jack Kinney, 81, of Covington, Indiana went to be with the Lord at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born to William and Helen Kinney on June 6, 1925 in Catlin, Illinois. Survivors include Mary, wife of 58, years and four children: Kathy (Juan) Reyes, Wayne (Christy) Kinney, Allen (Lisa) Kinney, and Mark Kinney. Jack had fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jack had a large family including lots of in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters and very a special mother-in-law, Ethel Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marks wife, Karen Kinney, and brother: Joe Kinney. Jack served honorably in the NAVY during WW II. He retired from General Electric after 43 years. Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in his youth and would walk from Catlin to attend church services in Tilton. He was a member of the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Tilton, Illinois where he served the Lord faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, NYI President, and served on the church board. Jack shared his love for the church through many service projects. He enjoyed softball, gardening, hunting, fishing, and telling Reader Digest jokes, but most of all he enjoyed his children and grandchildren and family gatherings. Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Southside Church of the Nazarene; at 1629 King Street, Tilton, Illinois from 6-8 p.m. CST. Services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the Southside Church of the Nazarene at 11 a.m. CST. Memorials may be made to the Southside Church of the Nazarene or Serenity Hospice. Sunset Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
