John 'Johnny' Gherna

John Francis "Johnny" Gherna passed away at OSF Sacred Heart Hospital on March 8, 2024.

Johnny was born to Frances Joyce and John Robert Gherna on December 29, 1964 in Danville, IL.

Johnny is survived by sons, Nathan and Jordan Gherna, mother, Joyce Gherna, brothers, Dan (Cathy) and Doug (Cheryl) Gherna, grandchildren, Olivur, Aislynn, Haisley and Melani. Soulmate, Leah Rhys, 2 nephews, a niece, grandnephews and grandnieces, cousins, aunt and uncle.

Johnny is preceded in death by his father, John Robert Gherna.

Johnny was a prolific guitarist, playing in several area bands in the 70s, 80s and 90s, including Rathskeller, Incogneatos and Ransom. He was an entrepreneur and former music store owner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Rod Godley will officiate. Cremation Rites will be accorded following services and Entombment will be at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Johnnys memory to Vermilion Heights Christian Church or St Judes Childrens Hospital.
