John Jay Nixon

John Jay Nixon, 87, of Danville passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL.

John was born on January 4, 1936 the son of John and Mary (Acton) Nixon in Potomac, IL. He married Sally Ann McCoy, on August 13, 1961 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2020.

John leaves behind his two daughters, Sherri (Tom) Somers of Monticello and Jill McDaniel of Oakwood, one grandson, Kaden McDaniel, special friend, Nancy Holler and several nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sally Ann Nixon, three brothers, Charles, Paul and Andrew Nixon and one sister, Leota Soloman.

John was retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Before working for the State of Illinois we delivered fuel for Golden Oil and Farmed. He enjoyed spending his free time attending his grandson Kadens sporting events, bowling, camping with his family and was an avid Dodgers and Illini Basketball fan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Greg Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in Johns name to the Oakwood Emergency Rescue Services in Oakwood, IL or Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL.
