John Jack D. Stevens Jr., 75, of Danville passed away on August 18, 2007 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Jack was born January 17, 1932 in Danville son of John D. and Mary Alta Tuggle Stevens Sr. He married Judy Rogers on June 8, 1956 in Covington, IN. She survives along with their children: Patty Grindley of Grafton, WI, Jeff (Jody) Stevens of W. Lafayette, IN, Jack A. Stevens of Albuquerque, NM, and Josh Stevens of Bloomington, IL. Grandchildren: Paul (Amanda) Grindley of Urbana, IL, Brett Grindley of Champaign, IL, Kristi (Jason) Wilmes of Fairbanks, AK, and Kimberly Stevens of Lackland AFB, TX. Great-grandchildren: Devlin & Skylar Grindley. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters. Jack attended Douglas grade school and Danville High. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War for three years, obtaining a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. After the military he worked at Pepsi Co. as a truck driver for 20 years, and later worked for the City of Danville retiring in 93. After retiring he worked at the Danville VA Hospital in Food Service. He was Chairman of the K of C for several years, and a member of American Legion Post #210. Jack was a Master Gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables, cooking, playing the lottery, NASCAR, the Cubs & Bears and loved his black lab, Toby. A Celebration of Jacks Life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Sunsets Community & Life Tribute Center 3550 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL (formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel). Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Danville National Cemetery with military honors preformed by the Korean War Veterans. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Boys Town and/or Holy Family School.
