John Jack Norman Mathews, 87, of Covington, Indiana passed away at home on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born on January 18, 1935, in Cayuga, IN, the son of Ernest Elmer and Mary Beulah {Murdock} Mathews, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Cora Sue Fleener in Cayuga, on July 11, 1953. John is survived by his wife, Sue; his son, Tony Dan Mathews of Williamsport; his daughter, Patti (Rick) Robertson of Snellville, GA; his three grandchildren, Anderson (Emily) Adams of Peachtree, GA, Susan (Dan Scullion) Adams of Palm View, QLD, AUS, and Creighton Adams of Columbus, OH; one great granddaughter, Aria Adams; and one step great grandson, Owen Ogburn. John graduated from Cayuga High School in 1953 and went on to graduate from DeVry Technical Institute. John had worked at General Motors and worked as a station agent and telegraph operator for the Nickel Plate Railroad. He then worked for many years as a plant manager for Autotron Inc. in Danville before retiring in 1999. He was a licensed medical massage therapist and worked for many years after retiring. John was a member of Covington United Methodist Church, a life member of 32 Mason and Unity Lodge 344, Rosicrucian, an affiliate of the Masonic Order. John had many interests and hobbies. During his lifetime he enjoyed his trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, taking flying lessons at Highland Airport, working on his hobby farm, traveling to all 50 states and Europe, and taking several rail trips. He enjoyed working with his son on a bamboo labyrinth. He was known to enjoy life. A celebration of Johns life will be held at 12:30pm (EST), Tuesday, August 2, 2022, beginning with a Masonic Service with funeral to follow at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932 with Pastor Thomas Hoehner officiating. Visitation will be held at 11:00am to 12:30pm on Tuesday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Thomas Cemetery, Newport, IN.
