John 'Jack' Klage

Danville - John “Jack” Klage, 78, of Danville passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 9:45 am at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Jack was born on November 15, 1935 in Danville, the son of John F. and Dorothy (Anderson) Klage. On June 17, 1960 he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Walker. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter Michelle (Mike) Elmendorf of Danville; three grandchildren, Bailey Reese, Nolan Reese and Devynn Elmendorf also of Danville. Jack graduated from Daniel Grade School and then Danville High School. He was employed as President of Hill Packing Company, and served as the Chairman of the Danville Election Commission for many years. He retired from the United States Marshals Service in 1992. Jack was a life member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Further Light Lodge # 1130, Elks Club #332, Vermilion County War Museum Society, and The North American Hunting Club. He was also a member of The Danville Boat Club, Danville Country Club, Gao Grotto, Order of the Eastern Star, Eastern Illinois Shrine, 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, Vermilion County Museum Society, American Legion Post 210, Vermilion County Farm Bureau, and Pheasants Forever. As one of Jacks friends said, “Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Jack had a much better and richer life because of him.” He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, going to French Lick, playing gin and poker with friends, spending time at his condo at Siesta Key, FL, watching all sports on T.V., and spending time with his three beloved grandchildren as they grew. A celebration of Jacks life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville, IL. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Stone. Burial will follow at Gordon Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A life Celebration Home in Danville on Tuesday April 22, 2014 from 5-8 PM. Memorials may be made in Jack's name to Bethel Lutheran Church or The Presence Cancer Care Center of Danville.
