John 'Jack' Fritsch

John "Jack" Fritsch, 91, of Danville, passed away with family by his side at Illiana Health Care VA, Palliative Care Unit on January 2, 2017. Jack was born the first son of John and Mary (Kopf) Fritsch on September 30, 1925, in Danville. Jack married the love of his life JoAnn Bohn on October 2, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville. She survives. Also, surviving Jack are his two daughters, Beverly Ledwon of Indianapolis and Pamela (Martin) Jimson of Danville; three grandchildren, Amanda (Bruce) Rutland of Jacksonville, NC, Kristy Jimson and Katari Jimson both of Danville; six great-grandchildren Alexus Jimson-Miller, Ethan Jimson, Phoenix Jimson, and Teppo (Jimson) Enos all of Danville, Alexis Rutland and Andrew Rutland both of Jacksonville, NC; and one brother Gene Fritsch of Danville. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. Jack was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served in many leadership rolls. He attended Trinity Lutheran grade school as a boy, the first of four generations to attended the school. Generations three and four attended under the name Danville Lutheran School. Graduating from Danville High School began a life-long pursuit of knowledge, both in the church and in the world. Jack served in the United States Army during WWII on the European front in the 3938 signal corp as a motor messenger. Jack worked as a United States Postal employee for 33 years, starting as a postal clerk and ending as a supervisor at retirement. For decades, Jack served as a director of the Danville Postal Employees Credit Union, and later as a director of the First Illinois Credit Union. Jack and JoAnn were members of the Danville Boat Club with Jack serving a term as Commodore. Other memberships included Elks, Danville Symphony, and Vermilion County Museum. Jack's interests were reading, gardening, traveling, and being a devoted husband, dad, and grandpa. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday January 5, 2017, at 2:00 pm. With Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the celebration. Per Jack's wishes cremation will take place at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at a later date with burial to follow at the Danville National Cemetery with military rite. Memorials may be made to Danville Lutheran School or Trinity Lutheran Church or Donors Choice.
