John 'Jack' E. Seidler

John Jack E. Seidler, 85, of Danville, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Jack was born on May 27th, 1925, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Louis E. and Helen M. (Hike) Seidler. He married Kathryn Jane Prast on June 9th, 1946 at St. Johns Evangelical Church (Danville United Church of Christ). She survives. He is also survived by two sons- Stephen (Judy McCarrier) Seidler of Ft. Myers, Florida and Bruce (Judy Gutterridge) Seidler of Bismarck, Illinois; daughter- Connie (Dale) Carlton of Danville; brother- Bill (Mickey) Seidler of Danville; nine grandchildren- Traci Swanson of Naples, Florida, Stephani Seidler of Bonita Springs, Florida, Brett and Brad Seidler of Leigh High Acres, Florida, Jordan and Kendra Carlton of Danville, Jackie, Ricky and Jimmy McCarrier of Ft. Myers, Florida; four great-grandchildren- Tiffany, Joshua, Tessa and Kathryn; great-great granddaughter- Tiani; and several nieces, nephews and a special niece- Janet Meeker of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jack graduated from Danville High School in 1943 and later attended classes at Danville Junior College. He joined the United States Marines in May of 1943 and served until November 1945. He worked at Koehn Motors in the parts department and then went to work at Allith Corp. in 1964 and worked there until 1977 at which time he founded Leatherneck Hardware, until he retired in June of 1990. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was very involved in scouting and was an Assistant Scout Master of Troop 6. He was a member of the Bismarck United Methodist Church, Bismarck Lions Club, Golden K Kiwanis, Anchor Lodge 980, the GAO Grotto and Danville Elks Club 332. A Celebration of the life of John Jack E. Seidler will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Becky Laumeier officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Bismarck United Methodist Church or to the donors choice.
