John "Jack" Duncan Frattick, 82, of Danville, passed away on Thursday March 22, 2018. Jack was born in Danville on April 26, 1935, the son of John J. and Ethel Frattick. Jack is survived by his previous wife, Janice Frattick, who is the mother of his children as well as his partner, buddy and companion in Life Karen Smitley. Jack is also survived by his; sons, Michael (Vicky) Frattick of Danville, John (Gwen) Frattick of Bismarck; grandchildren, Ethan and Katherine Frattick of Bismarck, Patrick Phelps of Lexington, NC; sister, Nancy Nier of Estero, FL; nephews, Scott (Patti) Nier of St. Charles, IL, Eric (Chris) Nier of Hatley WI; cousins, Clara Howard of Westville, Mary Lou Minnick of Champaign; many great nieces and nephews, and a special lifelong friend, Joe Pintar. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Don Nier and niece Laura Nier. He left Georgetown, IL a proud graduate of Frazier School and Georgetown High School Class of 1953. He obtained his bachelors in elementary education from Illinois State University in 1957. He completed his masters from Indiana State University in 1960. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Illinois with an Advanced Certificate specializing in school administration and supervision. He had a long career in education. He taught elementary school in Danville schools for 11 years. He was special education administrator for 2 years in Danville and 5 years in DuPage county. He was superintendent of schools for 16 years; Rossville-2 years, Oakwood-1-year, Calumet City-Burnham- 11 years, Gifford-Penfield-2 years. After retirement in 1991 he enjoyed several years of substitute teaching in area high schools. Jack was a proud member of many clubs and organizations including the Danville Boat Club, Elks member for 43 years, Loyal order of Moose, Gao Grotto for 46 years, Shriners International, a 32 Degree Free Mason for 49 years and a life member of The University of Illinois Alumni Association. Although he left the Georgetown Community for a long rewarding career in education, he never forgot his Georgetown roots. No matter where he was he always remembered where he came from. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music especially Frank Sinatra, the University of Illinois Football and Basketball teams, Chicago Bears, and especially his beloved Chicago Cubs. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his weekly visits with his son John. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6pm on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Sunset Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 5pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery on Wednesday April 18, 2018 at 10am.
