Howard, Ind. - John J. Pearson, 93, of Howard, passed away early Sunday morning on October 13, 2013 at the Richard L. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born April 6, 1920 in Independence, Indiana, the son of the late Asa A. and Fredericka M. Vester Pearson. He married Elcie L. Bannon on May 16, 1948 in Fountain County, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia(Ken)Steffen of Tangier, Indiana and Norma Pearson of Kingman, Indiana; three step grandchildren, Ben Steffen of Seattle, Washington; Adam Steffen of St. Louis, Missouri and Faith(Cody Allen)Steffen of Stafford Springs, Connecticut; two sisters, Ruth Godbey of Greenhill, Indiana and Louise Wiggins of Williamsport, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Dennis Pearson. John owned and operated Pearson's Melon Farm in Howard, Indiana. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. John was a member of the West Liberty Church of Christ. He was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport High School. John enjoyed all sports, being outdoors, walking, his church family and spending time with his family. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at West Liberty Church of Christ, 2806 West State Road 32, Covington, Indiana 47932; Officiating: Kevin Wildman; Burial with military honors: West Liberty Cemetery south of Covington, Indiana; Visitation: Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT at West Liberty Church of Christ and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
