John Lee Hillard, 70, of Danville, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 06, 2010 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. John was born on April 6, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Purl and Sylvia (Ping) Hillard. He married Janet Davidek on August 1, 1959 at Pleasant Grove Church in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by two sons- Daren (Annette) Hillard and Jim (Jennifer) Hillard both of Danville; one daughter- Joanne (James) Gasper of Danville; five brothers- Don (Sherry) Hillard, Dick (Judy) Hillard, Denny Hillard, Phillip Hillard all of Tyler, Texas and David Hillard of Danville; four sisters- Barbara (Daniel) Howie and Darlene Davis both of Tyler, Texas, Joyce (Jim) Grubb and Martha (Ken) Bartlow both of Danville; six grandchildren- Amber Hillard, Lacey Gasper, Kieven Hillard, Zachary Gasper, James Hillard all of Danville and Jonathon Hillard Wahls of Muncie; special brother-in-law- Monte (Gloria) Davidek of St. Petersburg, Florida; and several niece, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son- John Hillard, two brothers- Emanuel Hillard and Paul Hillard, and one infant sister. John worked for 25 years at General Motors in Danville, until he retired in 1990. He was a member of UAW Local #579. John loved building and riding trikes. He was a member of the Brothers of the Third Wheel. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, strumming his banjo and collecting things. He also enjoyed hill climbing at Pleasure Riders. John loved spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of the life of John Lee Hillard will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Danny Mikel officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Provena Cancer Center.
