John Hawkins Jr

John "J.R." Rodney Hawkins, 66, of Oakwood passed away Saturday August 29, 2015 at Iliana Veterans Home in Danville with family by his side. John was born on June 15, 1949 in Danville the son of John and Gerry (McBride) Hawkins they both still survive. Also surviving John are three children; Steven Mark Hawkins of Winter Haven, FL., Jon "J.D." (Megan) Hawkins of Oakwood and Bobbie Jo Lazzell of Georgetown, five siblings; Lori (Larry) Smith of Oakwood, Jan (Doug) Rafac of Shorewood, Tom (Carol) Rambo of Algonquin, Jim (Betty) Rambo of Carpentersville, and Rob (Nancy) Rambo of Providence, RI., John had eleven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews he leaves behind. John was preceded in death by his wife Debbie (Lappin) Hawkins and one brother David Hawkins. John was a veteran of the United States Army when he returned home worked at General Motors for 29 years before retiring, he then kept busy working at Precision Soya in Farmers City for a couple of years and running his own welding shop L and H Welding. John loved to be on his motor cycle enjoying the great days and the people he would ride with. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and bowling but most of all he loved to hang out with his family if it was a cook out or a birthday party John loved to be there. John will be remembered as a Strong, Loyal and Generous man by all who know him. A visitation will be held on Friday September 4, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home, at 3940 N Vermilion St. in Danville from 3pm. - 6pm. A service will start at 6pm. with military rights by the American Legion Post 210 after the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Project Wounded Warriors.
