John Gherna

Danville-John Robert Gherna of Danville passed away at his home on April 22,2016. He was born in Danville IL on March 21, 1934 to Jean Frances (Henderson) Gherna and Robert Ferdinand Gherna. He married Frances "Joyce" Mahoney on September 11, 1956 in Chicago Il. she survives. He is also survived by his brother Robert J. Gherna of Chatham Il.; his 3 sons Dan (Catherine) Gherna of Lake City Fl; Doug (Cheryl) of Urbana; and John F. of Danville; He has 5 grandchildren, John S. "Jack" (Corrine) Gherna, Jane Gherna, Dr. James Gherna, Nathanial Gherna, and Jordan Gherna, two great-grandchildren, Cooper Gherna and Addysin Gherna, as well as many nieces and nephews. He attended St. Patrick Grade School and was a member of Schlarman High School class of '52. He also attended the University of Illinois. John was a supervisor at Central Foundry Division of General Motors in Danville retiring in 1986. John is preceeded in death by his parents, sisters Theresa and Julia, and brother Frank. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville Tuesday, April 26, 2016 1-3 with service to follow.
