John Frederick Bower

John Frederick Bower, 86, of Paris, passed away at 10:00am, Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at his home. He was born the son of Hastings Charles and Rosa Margaret {Duley} Bower on July 15, 1934, at Bayshore, New York. On June 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mina Myrtle Baird at the Indianola Baptist Church. After 63 years of marriage, Mina will miss him dearly. John will also be missed by his children, Galen John (Kim) Bower of Lawton, MI, and Johnna Irene (John) Paulson of Paris; his eight grandchildren; his 11 great grandchildren; his sisters Joan Lipps & Cathy LaBarre; and many extended family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, and his sister, Betty Carlotto. John proudly served as a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force for 21 years. He worked as an aircraft mechanic and then later transferred to missile maintenance. Following Johns military service, he worked for the Rapid City Journal for the next 20 years as the building and facilities manager. In his spare time, John loved to do woodworking and going camping, as well as reading. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them and will be remembered through their memories together. A celebration of Johns life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 9, 2021, at Indianola United Methodist Church, 1 N. High Street, Indianola, IL 61850 with Duane Collins officiating. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846. Additional visitation will be held at the Church on Friday from 10:00am-11:00am prior to his service. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola, IL. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Faith in Action of Edgar County, IL, or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
