GEORGETOWN - John E. Neild, 86, of Georgetown, passed away at 5:10 pm on Wednesday, December 1st, 2004, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville. John was born on November 22nd, 1918, in Georgetown, the son of the late Fred and Goldie {Lacey} Neild. He was united in marriage to Amelia B. Grygiel on October 28th, 1941, in Danville, IL. She preceded him in death on September 17th, 1999. Those who survive him include: his daughter, Frances Goodrum of Georgetown; his brother, Richard "Rip" Neild of Georgetown; his sister, Lucy Jones of Plainfield, IN; his grandchildren, Matthew Goodrum of Georgetown and Carrie (Mark) Mattsey of St. Joseph, IL; his great grandchildren, Jonathan Goodrum of Hoopeston, Benjamin Mattsey and Brandon Mattsey, both of St. Joseph. His parents, one sister and one brother preceded John in death. After serving in WWII in the US Army, he worked at the VA Medical Center in the Rehab Department, then from there went to drive a gas truck for DX and finally working for Hysters Company in Danville. He was a member of the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203 in Georgetown. John enjoyed gardening, searching for Indian relics', mushroom hunting, woodcarving, and reading. He cherished his family and friends and was especially fond of spending time with his great grandchildren.
