John E. Harrington, 78, of Oakwood passed away at 5:28pm on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at his residence. John was born December 8, 1929 in Atwood, Tennessee the son of Maurice and Mary McConnell Harrington. On May 23, 1953 he married Joyce Bright in Arcola, Illinois. She survives along with their children Teresa Marie (Charles) Hazelbaker of Powder Springs, Georgia, Carla Ann (Allan) Ierardi of Urbana, Dan Michael (Christie) Harrington of Oakwood, and John Patrick Harrington of Danville. Grandchildren Vito, Rosalie, and Bryan Ierardi, Deby Murray, Summer Rassas, Flahnery Ybarra, Ashley Harrington, and Wynter Peguero. Great grandchildren Mark, Janea, Giselle, David, Joseph, Frank, Timothy, Mario, Mercedez, Antonio, Vincent, Dezarieh, Christie, Gabriel, Solome, and Jasmine. Brother of Paul Joseph (Linda) Harrington of White Heath, IL. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. His parents, grandson Nathan Hazelbaker, and sisters Eileen Welsh, and Margaret Eichelberger preceded him in death. John was a retired crane operator and long standing member of the Local 841 since 1947. A proud Korean War Veteran who earned a Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, and Army Occupation Medal (Japan). Former member of the Shoot & Cuss Skeet Shooting Club. John and Joyces home will be remembered, as it was always open to all the neighborhood kids and anyone in need. A celebration of Johns life will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the VA Protestant Chapel, 1900 E. Main St., Danville. The family will receive friends from 11-12:00. Pastor Dave Wickens will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Korean War Veterans.
