John E. Burke, 76, of Westville, passed away at 3:55am, Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born on May 23, 1940, in Westville, IL, the son of Edward Karushis and Esther Burke, both deceased. He was married to Cheryl Mielke on June 7, 1969, in Westville. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his children, John (Lisa) Burke of Westville, Joe (Stacy) Burke of Westville, Jeff (Beth) Burke of Tempe, AZ, and Leslie (Jerry) Burke-Dominick of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Burke of Denver, CO, Briar Burke of Westville, Dakottah Burke of Westville, Raef Burke of Westville, Brendan Burke of Ohio, Jacob Burke of Tempe, AZ, Alexis Dominick of Stamford, CT, & Alexandria Curry of Westville; his sister, Regina Webster of Danville; and special niece, Kim (Craig) Campbell and their children, Craig Jr & Marlo of Chicago, IL. John trained and worked at Indiana University Neurology Department and later worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as an EEG technician for 23 years. He was responsible for the Illinois State Society of The EEG Technology. He was a veteran of the National Guard for six years as a pilot. He also worked as a Bailiff at the Vermilion County Courthouse and as security for Judge Rita Garman. He also worked as a security courier for the First National Bank in Westville & Danville. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville and was a former Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member the ELKS Club. He enjoyed golfing, remote-controlled model planes, and taught ballroom dancing at Burke-Karr Dance Studio. John cherished the time he spent with his family. They will remember him always. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations to be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N State St, Westville, IL, 61883. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, November 3, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westville. Family will be at the Church beginning at 10:00am to greet guests. As were his wishes, John donated his body to science. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St, Westville, assisted his family with arrangements.
