FISHER-John Dean Halcomb, 81, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013 at Champaign County Nursing Home. He was born June 7, 1932 to Hubert and Valla Parker Halcomb in DeLand, Illinois. He married Eunice Heckerson on September 22, 1951 in Danville. John was a graduate of Armstrong High School, class of 1950. He started his farming career in 1953 in Armstrong, and later moved to the Mahomet area. He retired there in 1989. Known for his love of attending auctions across east central Illinois, he always seemed to purchase non-running lawn mowers. He would then repair them and add them to his collection. He enjoyed helping anyone solve their mechanical issues, usually with some lengthy conversations. John loved his 1947 Ford 8N. He will be remembered for his love of driving it in Fishers 4th of July parade. John is survived by his wife; Eunice, three sons; Dennis Halcomb, Daryl Halcomb, and Dwain Halcomb, one daughter; Dana Hannah, grandchildren; Shane Halcomb, Dr. Jamie Hannah, Aimee Daniels, Jessica Hannah, Elizabeth Rosenstein, Jase Hannah, Aaron Halcomb, Brad Halcomb, Nick Halcomb, and Hannah Halcomb, seven great grandchildren; Emily Halcomb, Ryan Daniels, Paige Halcomb, Anastasia Halcomb, Trinity Halcomb, Logan Daniel, and Zoe Halcomb, two brothers; Gene and Sherrill Halcomb, and sister; Lois Murrell. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Barbara McKinzie. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Homes, Champaign-Urbana Chapel, 710 North Neil Street, Champaign. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12h, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Homes Champaign Urbana Chapel, with Dave Ashby and Michael Halcomb officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following ceremonies. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Alzheimers Foundation of America for Alzheimers Research, or to River Valley Christian Church.
