John David Wright, 89, of Henning, passed away at 3:22 AM on June 6, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
John was born on October 26, 1934 the son of Jerry and Yvonne (Langlett) Wright in Danville, IL. He married Betty Barnes on November 27, 1959 and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2002, he later married Marlene Hill on October 10, 1990 and she preceded him in death on October 28, 2018 and married Joyce (Turner) Brutlag on August 29, 2020 and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brutlag of Henning, IL, his sons, Jeff (Bonny) Wright of Covington, IN, Greg (Nancy) Wright of Veedersburg, IN, Brad (Amy) Wright of Champaign, IL, Mike (Teresa) Dean of Hoopeston, IL and Bruce (Christine) Dean of Chesapeake, VA, his daughters, Lori Dean of Naples, FL, and Amy (Clifford) Hegg of Bismarck, IL, and brother, Lyle (Louise) Wright of Danville, IL. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lillian Stigman, two wives, Betty Wright and Marlene Wright, one son, Larry Dean.
John served in the United States Army from 1955 until 1959. He was a member of Second Church of Christ and attended the Rossville Church of Christ with his wife Joyce. John retired from Tee-Pak after 26 years of service and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Danville Shrine, and American Legion Post 210, serving on the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
John was a strong Christian man serving in a variety of churches in the Danville area as well as several community service organizations. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed spending his free time golfing, bowling, woodworking, gardening and assembling jigsaw puzzles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois, 61834. Kevin Purdy will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2024 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Johns memory to the Rossville Church of Christ, American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard or the Wounded Warrior Project.
