John D. Hood, 88, of Danville, passed away at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. He was born on October 5, 1922 in Greeley, Colo, the son of Harry and Gladys (Brinks) Hood. Both are deceased. John married Margaret Jack on August 25, 1946 in Greeley, Colo. She preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Martha Duncan. She survives. Also surviving are John's three daughters; Sharla (Frank) Stevens of Niceville, FL, Lynne Red of Danville, and Barbara D. Hood, also of Danville. His four grandchildren; Monte Stevens; Chad (Nikki) Red; Michele (Todd) Huerkamp, Angela Red, and his five great-grandchildren also survive him. In addition to his parents, and wife, Margaret, John is also preceded in death by his two brothers; Charles, and Benjamin Hood, and one sister; Dorothy. He was a graduate from the University of Washington where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. He enlisted into the United States Navy, serving both in WWII, and the Korean Conflict. After being honorable discharged, John went to work for General Electric, and Hyster, retiring from Hyster as a Transportation Manager. He was a faithful member of the First Presypbetrian Church in Danville, was active in the Golden Kiwanis Club, and enjoyed gardening, golfing, and volunteering his time. A memorial celebration of John Hood's life will be from 10:00 to 12:00pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the First Presypbetrian Church in Danville. Per John's wishes, he will be cremated at Sunset's on-site crematory with burial to be scheduled at a later date.
