John Charles Hiser, 76, of Danville passed away on Monday August 18, 2014 with his family by his side at Illiana VA Medical Center in Danville, IL. John was born on August 24, 1937, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Jones) Hiser. He married Ann Gilbert on October 14, 1968. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Renee Hiser, Darlene Dastous and Raymond Dastous all of Danville; six grandchildren, Cory Dastous, C.J. Hazelbaker, Cody (Chelsea) Phillips, Colton Dastous, Sara Southwell and Amber Snook; four great grandchildren, Salem Dastous, Damian Phillips, Lilly Phillips and Gage Phillips; four sisters, Barbara (Larry) Darr, Jean Kinney, Sharon (Kenny) Bostwick and Judy (Rick) Kentner; two brothers, Keneth and Gary Hiser; one special sister-in-law, Helen Burns and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded by his parents; one brother, Robert Hiser; also a brother-in-law Glenn Kinney and sister-in-law Paula Hiser. John joined the Navy where he served our country for 22 years. He was stationed on two Air Craft Carriers during his service, the USS Ranger and the USS Tarawa. He also served during the Vietnam War. John loved his country and loved serving in the Navy. When he finished his 22 year career in the Navy he came back to Danville and went to work at Wyman-Gordon where he worked for the next 27 years. John loved family and spending time with them was very important. He also liked wood working, watching sports on TV, and doing cross word puzzles. He was a member of Saint Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. John will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. A celebration of Johns life will be held at Saint Pauls Catholic Church at 10:00 am, Saturday August 23, 2014. Father Greg Nelson will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday August 22, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Memorials may be made in Johns name to Saint Pauls Catholic Church or Homeless Vets of Danville.
