John 'Bud' William Hart

John William Bud' Hart of Westville passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville. John was born on May 6, 1922. He grew up in the Meeks Station area east of Georgetown. He attended Wingard Grade School and graduated from Georgetown High School. Bud married Alfreda LaVonne Deknuydt on July 25, 1942, in St. Louis. Together they raised a daughter, Cheryl (Kenneth) Hannan also of Westville. He was the proud grandfather of Michael (Ruthie) Hannan, Debra (Willie) Howell, & Jennifer (David) Jenkins, all of Westville, and his great grandchildren including; Michael (Andria) Brazis of Arcola, Evan Hannan of Chicago, Alex Hannan of Westville, & Brooke Jenkins of Indianapolis. John served in the US Army as an infantryman from 1942-1945 with duty in the European and African Theatres. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning from his service time, he worked for the Veteran's Administration in Danville for 34 years. John is survived by his wife, his daughter and son-in-law, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and sister, Leah Yerem. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul, and sisters, Mary & Marge. Growing up in the now Forest Glen area, the outdoors was where one would typically find Bud. His flowers and vegetable garden were his passion second only to his family. In his earlier days, he was also an avid mushroom hunter. At his request, there will be no formal services. He chose to go to his heavenly Father in a quiet and simple way. The way he lived his life! Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be given in his name to Vermilion County Conservation District Foundation, an organization that supports the outdoors he dearly loved.
