John Bernard Canfield

John Bernard Canfield, 85, of Champaign, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022. He was born in Springfield, IL on February 10, 1937, the son of Glenn and Ruth (Kestel) Canfield. On November 25, 1964, John married Noralyn Raino, who was at his side when he passed.

John is also survived by his children Joel Alan (Melissa Griswold) Canfield, Lynn (Jesse Brown) Canfield, John (Maureen ODonnell) Canfield, and Dr. Jeffrey Canfield; grandchildren Masey Canfield, Zoe Canfield, Xanthe Brown, Kieran Hein, and Maggie Hein; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn, and sister Juanita.

A Navy veteran, John received his Doctorate of Education and worked as a psychologist and school administrator, retiring from Elgin School District U-46 in 1993. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, pool, and golf, served as an NCAA track official, and followed all U of I athletics.

A Celebration of Johns life will be held from 2 to 5pm on Saturday, January 14, at the Windsor West Community Clubhouse, 2502 Fields South Drive, Champaign. Sunset Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Johns name to the donors choice of charity.
