John Albert

John J.D.' Albert, 82, of Oakwood, passed away at 8:35am on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 25, 1930, in Oakwood, the son of O.O. "Mike" and Martha (Johnston) Albert. Both are deceased. On May 28, 1948, J.D. married Carole Joan Hoover. She preceded him in death in 1999. Surviving family include three sons: Michael (Christal) Albert of St. Joseph, Stuart (Tracy) Albert of Champaign, and John Albert of Oakwood; two daughters: Kathy (Frank) Atwood of Oakwood, April (Pete) Woods of Oakwood; twelve grandchildren: Scott Atwood, Broc Atwood, Luc Atwood, Annette Albert, Ashley (Ramsey) Albert, Terri Wells, Traci Rebholz, Tammi Farshid, Michele Woods, Dixie Enos, Ricky Woods, and Misty Woods. Fourteen great-grandchildren and three feline friends also survive him. J.D. was an Oakwood High School graduate and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1952 as a gunnery instructor. After serving, J.D. was employed with ASARCO Copper of Silver Bell, AZ, and Hyster of Danville, IL, as well as farming. He was a man of many trades, including watch repair. He was a member of the Danville American Legion Post 210, and the American Farm Bureau. J.D. was a major Civil War buff, enjoyed gun collecting, working on gas and steam engines, and raising cats. He will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of the life of John J.D.' Albert is scheduled for 1:00pm on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel located at 105 East South Main Street in Oakwood with burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Oakwood will military honors performed by the Korean War Vets. Pastor Dennis Divan has been asked by the family to officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the funeral home.
