John A. Dowers

Georgetown, Ill. -- John A. Dowers, 98, formerly of Georgetown and Covington, Indiana and a resident of the North Logan Healthcare Center in Danville, Illinois for the past two years, passed away at 3:45 p.m. CST Monday (January 1, 2007) at the North Logan Healtcare Center in Danville. He was born July 4, 1908, in Georgetown, Illinois, the son of the late James and Liddie Dowers. He married Bertha M. Jones on December 24, 1932 in Newport, Indiana. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2000. Survivors include: one daughter, Sharon(Kenny)Holmes of Covington, Indiana; three grandchildren and two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; one brother, Jim Dowers of Eugene, Indiana. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Dowers, five sisters and three brothers. John was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Pleasant Mound Church in Georgetown, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising animals, farming, coon hunting and spending time with his family. There will be no services. Per family request cremation is scheduled.
