Joe Barton

Williamsport, IN - Joseph “Joe” Barton, 78, of Williamsport passed away at 7:35 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on November 27, 1936 in Georgetown, IL to Charles and Garnet (Dickson) Barton. He married Patricia “Pat” Galyen on December 24, 1965. She survives. He is also survived by a son Joe Barton of Montana; three daughters, Dawn (Frank) Azimi of Danville, IL, Wendy Jo (Kenny) White of Williamsport, and Kristy Jo (Dean) Burke of Covington; a brother, Ed (Judy) Barton of Westville; sister, Shirley Galyen of Georgetown, IL and sister-in-law Patsy Barton of Cayuga; four grandchildren, Jessica Nelson, Sheren Azimi, Leala Azimi, and Zach Azimi; and great-grandchildren, MaKayla, Savanna, Mason, Jacob, Bryon, Ethan, Cayden, and Seanna; and lots of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim, a sister Hope, and brother Chubby. Joe served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1965 and had many fond memories being stationed in France. He worked as a millwright at General Motors and retired in 1991 after 37 years. He also owned Bartons Small Engine Repair for over 30 years. Joe took pride in his work and always tried to be fair. He was also a staunch conservative, was a lifetime member of the NRA, and a proud supporter of the Second Amendment. Joe enjoyed fishing, raising and racing pigeons, watching the Chicago Bears and U of I sports. Per his wishes, Joe will be cremated and no services are being held at this time. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made to the National Rifle Association. Sunsets Covington Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
