JoAnn Goodner, an amazing 85 year old, quietly passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, with Lu Ann and Lisa by her side. JoAnn was born in Danville, IL, on March 11, 1932, the daughter of Viola and Fay Taylor. Among being the Goodner family matriarch she was married to Jack Goodner who passed on March 27, 2009. They raised two children, daughter Lu Ann (Jack Picklap) grandchildren, Jeff Picklap and Kristen (Shannon) Stine. Son Todd (Lisa) Goodner, grandchildren, Travis and Mason, who all survive her. She is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews. JoAnn was the youngest of her three siblings, Ella Mae Werner, June Clark, and Joseph Taylor, who all preceded her. Family and friends were JoAnn's passion and delight. She was loving and fiercely loyal, one who always committed herself selflessly to others. She cared for her mother and husband unconditionally in their time of need. At the same time, always full of energy while supporting all others who knew her. With her sharp mind, she had the gift of working crossword puzzles quickly and would win at any game of Scrabble if you dared to challenge her to play. Grandchildren were JoAnn's pride and joy. She was always present and cheering them on, an absolute number one fan of anything they were involved in. The love for her many nieces and nephews was apparent. Annual family vacations were shared with extended family to Michigan and Panama City Beach (even though the water terrified her). She took great pleasure in remembering birthdays and anniversaries for every family member. Everyone could count on receiving a special card, fun photo or personal message from her. Her love of nature consisted diversely from bird watching to motorcycle riding to many places with her husband and friends. Even her cooking will be missed by all who received the pleasure of being on the receiving end of one of her dishes. JoAnn's professional life was equally impressive. She was an executive secretary for many years until her retirement from Hyster Co. Prior to that she was a savvy business partner with her husband at The Sweetheart Ice Cream Store in Westville. After her retirement, she volunteered in the office at Second Church of Christ, where she was a member. Please join in celebrating JoAnn's life at Sunset Funeral home, 3940 N. Vermilion in Danville from 5-7 pm on Friday, June 23, with funeral at 9 am on Saturday, June 24, also at Sunset. As JoAnn was a caregiver for her husband for many years, the family requests memorials be contributed to the Alzheimer's Foundation, VA Alzheimer's unit, or Second Church of Christ. Please join JoAnn's family in sharing photos, videos and memories on her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
