Joan Laury Ring, 94, of Danville Illinois, passed away on February 3rd, 2023 in Phoenix AZ. Joan was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 12, 1928 to the Reverend Raymond H. Laury and Zella Brown Laury. As the daughter of a Methodist pastor she moved several times, living in Big Horn, Wyoming, Fox Lake, Illinois, and Chicago, Illinois before moving to Danville after her marriage to Dr. Ned M. Ring, DDS in 1951. Joan attended both DePauw University and Northwestern University, graduating from Northwestern in 1950, where she was a proud member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Joan and Ned met in Chicago when Joan was at Northwestern University and Ned was in Dental School at the U of I Chicago campus, when he attended Sunday morning service at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, where Joans father was the pastor. After spotting Joan singing in the choir, Ned decided to attend a young adult fellowship meeting that evening and walked her back to the parsonage. The rest is history. They were married for 58 years, and had three children, Mason, Laury, and Barbara. Joan loved living in Danville and was very active in the community in PEO, Clover Club, Dental Auxiliary, Toys for Tots, St. James United Methodist Church, and many other local activities and charities. She taught a year of English at Bismarck High School, and later taught English as a Second Language at DACC for several years. Joan loved being "the oldest" of the five Laury girls, and she adored her sisters Frances (Osborne), Barbara (Johnson), Susan (Freedlund), and Ida Grace, known as Mickey (Jarvis). She greatly enjoyed hosting parties and entertaining in her home on Gilbert Street. Joan was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was highly regarded for her sense of humor, infectious laughter and world-famous loon call. She will be missed.
Joan is survived by her three children, Ned Mason Ring Jr. and wife Maelene Belo Ring, of Phoenix AZ, Laury Jo Ring Klasky and husband Joel Klasky, of Cave Creek AZ, and Barbara Jean Ring McKone and husband Kevin McKone, of St. Louis, MO. Joan is also survived by five grandchildren, Sarah Klasky Lohmeier (Jason) of New River AZ, Robert Klasky Ring (Simon) of Phoenix AZ, Vanessa Belo Ring of Phoenix AZ, Grace McKone Shivka (Nick) of Phoenix AZ, and Thomas Hawkins McKone (Chloe) of Phoenix AZ and three great-grandchildren, Ellis Ring, Ari Ring, and Summer Lohmeier, of Phoenix, AZ.
