Joan Phenicie

Danville Joan Phenicie, 101, of Danville passed away at 10:25 PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Goldwater Care of Danville. She was born October 11, 1922 in Urbana, IL to Addie Nyram and Della Opal (Shroyer) Wrather. She married Murray L. Phenicie on February 14, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Joan is survived by two sons, Melvin Phenicie of Ridge Farm and Dale (Becky) Phenicie of Danville; nine grandchildren, Chad Phenicie, Hayley (Cody) Cunningham, Kyle Phenicie, Corey (Mary) Phenicie, Shane Phenicie, Joshua (Tonjia) Phenicie, Doug (Lee) Lawrence, Jordan (Krista) Phenicie, and Shanna (Keith) Taylor; and 17 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jenny Neal.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was preceded in death by a son, Jay Phenicie, daughter-in-law Janice Phenicie, grandson Doug Phenicie; and nine brothers and sisters.

Joan was a farm-raised woman and housewife. In addition to caring for her home and family she would often help out on the farm. She spent many hours tending to her garden and canned plenty of vegetables from it each year. Despite her stature, Joan was one of the biggest supporters of her beloved Chicago Cubs and likely knew exactly what moves the coaching staff should make. She was also a die-hard U of I and Bears fan. Most of all, she was very faithful in her Christian Belief. Joan was a long-time member of Central Christian Church in Danville and was a lover of Job, holding strong in her faith through her life.

A service to celebrate the life of Joan Phenicie will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Adam Harmon will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Monday, also at Sunset in Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Christian Church in Danville.
